Our Recycling Process

The VacuRema recycling process employed by Holfeld Plastics converts clean dry bottle flake into pellets that meet food safety requirements and are suitable for use as raw material for bottle or sheet production. It can also produce a melt for direct extrusion to a finished product without the need for pelletisation.

The VacuRema was granted ‘non-object’ by the US FDA in November 2000 for production of post consumer recycled (PCR) PET for use in food contact applications from post consumer soft drink and mineral water bottles.

A second FDA letter of ‘non-object’ (June 2001) covers the production of PCR PET for use in the manufacturing of food-contact articles using pc containers collected through deposit and kerbside recycling programmes (i.e. not including industrial containers such as drums for chemicals). The VacuRema process is also EFSA compliant.
