Since plastics from renewable sources remain scarce closed loop recycling for APET will become an established method of reducing packaging sent to Landfill. In line with recent research by retailers relevant to sustainable and responsible packaging initiatives, there is a need to alter consumer perceptions that plastic packaging is an ‘unfriendly’ packaging material. That through the promotion of a Closed Loop Recycling model, waste packaging can be a valuable resource that can be reprocessed into new packaging and is fully recyclable.

To handle an increased volume of post consumer recyclate Holfeld Plastics have invested in additional extrusion and thermoforming capacity to run rPET. Trays and sheet from 50%-80% PET recyclate for food contact applications is now available.

The focus on Mono layer rPET offers a lighter pack without a PE sealing layer, the elimination of PVC from food markets and easy sorting and recycling back into the post consumer waste stream.

Holfeld Plastics continues to invest and will be commissioning a 20,000 tonne PET & HDPE cleaning and recovery line later this year.
