Holfeld Company History

Holfeld Plastics was founded by Edmund Holfeld in 1978. Since September 2014 Holfeld has been owned  by the USA-based Waddington Group. The company was initially established to provide foam packaging to the cosmetic industry but is now more widely recognised as a foremost supplier of rigid plastic packaging to the food markets across Europe. The company supplies some of Europe’s leading food processors and retailers throughout the meat, fish, poultry and fresh produce sectors.

Holfeld’s business model is based around the delivery of innovative products and solutions to its customers who are drawn from some of the most highly regarded names within the UK, Ireland and Europe. The key to Holfeld’s success has been an agile and flexible manufacturing operation supported by a front-line service team putting the needs of customers first – every time.

Latest developments

2011: Holfeld launch a new fully recyclable mono material called ‘Holseal’ eliminating requirements for an additional PE layer achieving a ‘lick seal’ in primary poultry applications.

2011: Holfeld launch the G81 range of soft fruit punnets with sloping vents in the base for optimal and continuous ventilation enhancing shelf life.

2012: Holfeld launch new website with fully updated products catalogue

2012: Holfeld launch r-PETeCO for a number of applications in the protein, meat and fish and fresh produce markets. The material is lightweight with a specific gravity reduced from 1.33 to 1.05 – the resulting trays are up to 20% lighter than virgin PP trays.

2012: Holfeld launch eCOvantage in their ‘D’ range of meat trays containing at least 80% recycled food grade post consumer recyclate. The range offers a 28% lower carbon footprint than the equivalent r-PP trays and has led to a 74% CO2 saving on raw materials and a 47% reduction in the carbon footprint of Holfeld products over the lifecycle.

2013: Holfeld launch  bespoke G81 range of soft fruit punnets for a ready to serve fresh berry fruit dessert with 'spork' feature and cream cavity and a supporting range of 2 nd 3 cavity berry punnets

2013: Holfeld speed up integrated soft fruit packing lines with a 1st to market one-size-fits-all uto de-nest range

2013: Holfeld hit 99.7% OTIF performance over the first 3 months of 2013

2013: Holfeld is successful in winning the top award at Repak 2013/014 for sustainable packaging design

2014: Holfeld win TOP GOLD Starpack Award in the Greenstar Sustainable Packaging category

2014: Holfeld acquired by the Waddington Group in September 2014
